Checking The Cooling System For Leaks

WARNING: Coolant outlet in the high-voltage battery 
  • Risk of short circuit or fire 

    → Read out the fault memory of all high-voltage systems before checking the pressure of the cooling system.

    → In the event of an insulation fault, do not apply pressure to the cooling system.

    → In the event of an insulation fault, have a high-voltage expert take care of the issue.

WARNING: Hot fluid 
  • Danger of scalding 

    → Let the fluid cool down.

    → Wear personal protective gear.

  1. Check the fault memory of all high-voltage systems. If there are insulation faults, hand over to a high-voltage expert.
  2. Open the cap on the reservoir.
  3. > V.A.G 1274B - Cooling system tester  must be connected to the coolant reservoir using a suitable adapter from > VAS 6562 - test adapters for cooling system tester  .
  4. Build up pressure of approx. 1.0 bar using the hand pump on the cooling system tester.
  5. If this pressure is not maintained, find the leak and correct the problem.
  6. Check pressure relief valve in the cap. 
    1. 6.1 > V.A.G 1274B - Cooling system tester  must be attached to the cap.
    2. 6.2 Build up overpressure using the hand vacuum pump on the cooling system tester.
    3. 6.3 The pressure relief valve must open at an overpressure of between 1.4 and 1.6 bar. 
  7. If the pressure relief valve does not open, replace the cap.
