Replacing Thermal Management Control Unit

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  > to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester  .

  1. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  2. Place original remote control (hand-held transmitter) in emergency start tray.

  3. Select the vehicle type if required.
  4. Select the Thermal management (TME)  control unit in the overview. Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  5. Coding/programming  must be selected.
  6. Automatic coding  must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
    1. 6.1 The Tester displays the message: Coding completed successfully. Press F12 to continue.
  7. Drive links/checks  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
    1. 7.1 Air conditioning  must be selected.
    2. 7.2 Teach LIN data bus components  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
    3. 7.3 Select activation value Refrigerant circuit sensors (PT1/PT2)  and press F8 to start.
    4. 7.4 Select activation value Expansion valve (EXV1)  and press F8 to start.
  8. Maintenance/repairs  must now be selected.
    1. 8.1 Teach cooling-air flaps  must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
      1. 8.1.1 Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
      2. 8.1.2 Teach cooling-air flaps according to menu guidance.
    2. 8.2 Teach air-conditioning  compressor must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
      1. 8.2.1 Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
      2. 8.2.2 Teach air-conditioning compressor according to menu guidance.
  9. Read out the fault memory  , correct faults that are stored if necessary and clear the fault memory.
  10. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
