Removing Cylinder Head (Cylinders 4-6)

NOTE:
Dirt and contamination
- Risk of damage to units or components
→ Protect components from dirt and contamination.
→ Clean or replace dirty components.
Information
- Position hydraulic tappets on a surface you have prepared and labelled yourself in accordance with their installation position in the cylinder head.
- Components are run in fitting bores. Do not get these mixed up.
- Do not use magnets for pulling out or removing the hydraulic tappets. Magnets can cause malfunctions.
- Remove hydraulic tappets.
Pull bucket tappets -1- and switching tappets -2- out of the fitting bores in the cylinder head.

Set bucket and switching tappets down on a clean, labelled surface > Laying aside hydraulic tappets [shown as an example).

- Loosen fuel line holder -1-

Release and disconnect electric plug connections -2- .
Unscrew screw on fuel line holder -3- .

- Loosen line connections on cylinder head.
Unscrew and remove screws -1- .
Disconnect lines -2-.
Close off line connections using suitable stoppers.

- Unscrew screw on heat shield -1-

- Unscrew bearing pin -2-

- Unscrew screws for chain housing -1-

- Unscrew cylinder head screws -1-
.
Cylinder head screws
- Remove cylinder head.
- Check fitting bores of the hydraulic tappets for wear. If you see signs of wear, replace the relevant cylinder head and any worn hydraulic tappets.
- Check the sealing face of the cylinder head for distortion and wear during re-installation. Carry out the required repair measures if necessary.
- Remove and dispose of cylinder head gasket.
- Check dowel sleeves for signs of damage and replace them if necessary.
