Removing Cylinder Head (Cylinders 1 - 3)

NOTE: Dirt and contamination
  • Risk of damage to units or components

    → Protect components from dirt and contamination.

    → Clean or replace dirty components.

Information 

  1. Remove hydraulic tappets.

    Pull bucket tappets -1-  and switching tappets -2-  out of the fitting bores in the cylinder head.

    Set bucket and switching tappets down on a clean, labelled surface > Laying aside hydraulic tappets [shown as an exampie).

  2. Unscrew screw -1-  on the generator -2-  .

  4. Loosen coolant collection unit -1-  .

    Unscrew and remove screws -2-  .

  5. Loosen lines on the cylinder head.

    Unscrew screw on line bracket -1-  .

    Release and disconnect electric plug connection -2-  .

    Unclip clip -3-  .

  6. Unscrew screw on coolant regulator -1-.

    Information 

    • Be careful - cylinder heads are heavy. 
  7. Unscrew screws for chain housing -1-  .

  8. Unscrew cylinder head screws -1-  .

  9. Remove cylinder head.
  10. Check fitting bores of the hydraulic tappets for wear. If you see signs of wear, replace the relevant cylinder head and any worn hydraulic tappets.
  11. Check the sealing face of the cylinder head for distortion and wear during re-installation. Carry out the required repair measures if necessary.
  12. Remove and dispose of cylinder head gasket.
  13. Check dowel sleeves for signs of damage and replace them if necessary.
