Checking The Cooling System For Leaks

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
WARNING: Coolant outlet in the high-voltage battery
  • Risk of short circuit or fire

→ Read out the fault memory of all high-voltage systems before checking the pressure of the cooling system.

→ In the event of an insulation fault, do not apply pressure to the cooling system.

→ In the event of an insulation fault, have a high-voltage expert take care of the issue.

  1. Check the engine coolant level. See above. Top up to the maximum fill level if necessary.
  2. On hybrid models, check the fault memory of all high-voltage systems. If there are insulation faults, hand over to a high-voltage expert.
  3. Fit cooling system tester > V.A.G 1274B - Cooling system tester  with adapter > V.A.G 1274/8 - Adapter for cooling system tester  to the coolant reservoir.

    Information

    • The pressure must not drop.
    • There must be no drops of coolant.
  4. Apply test pressure of approx. 1.5 bar and visually check hose connections, connection pieces and cooling system components for leaks.
  5. If the pressure drops, find the leak and correct the problem.
