Removing Rear Final Drive
Installation position of rear final drive
- Loosen both drive shafts at the final drive.

- Remove rear left wheel bearing housing (wheel carrier) without separating the drive shaft from the wheel bearing housing.

- Lower the wheel carrier with the drive shaft.
- Fit a stopper on the opening on the drive shaft at the final drive.
- Remove heat protection on the cardan shaft at the tunnel support.

- Loosen tunnel support for cardan shaft and leave the cardan shaft lying on the struts.

- Mark the position of the cardan shaft with respect to the rear final drive.

- Press the cardan shaft off the rear final drive pin using a mounting lever -A-
.

- Loosen centre bearing holder -1-
and tie up the cardan shaft in the cardan tunnel.

CAUTION: Kinked or overstretched lines- Leaks in the hydraulic system
→ Only lower anti-roll bar slightly and secure it to the chassis.

- Only for vehicles with PDCC:
Loosen rear anti-roll bar.
- Unscrew fastening screw -1-
on the rear axle carrier at the front. Always counter with a ring wrench.
Releasing front final drive mounting
- Unscrew two fastening screws -2-
on the rear axle carrier at the rear. Always counter with a ring wrench.
Loosening rear final drive mounting
- Tip up the drive flange -A-
.
Raising front final drive
- Get a second person to help you tip the final drive to the left -A-
at the same time and lower it slowly -B-
. Do not bend the drive shaft as far as it can go.
Lowering final drive
- Remove final drive from the drive shaft at the rear right.
- Fit a stopper on the opening on the drive shaft at the final drive.
