Preliminary Work

  1. Isolate high-voltage system from power supply.

    > 2X00IN ISOLATION FROM SUPPLY PRIOR TO PERFORMING MAINTENANCE TASKS ON E-HYBRID VEHICLES

  2. Drain refrigerant.

    > 870317 DRAINING AND FILLING REFRIGERANT R1234YF

    > 870317 DRAINING AND FILLING REFRIGERANT R134A

  3. Disconnect the battery ground strap.

    > 270619 REMOVING AND REINSTALLING BATTERY

  4. Remove front trim panel (engine compartment).

    > 700219 REMOVING AND REINSTALLING FRONT TRIM PANEL (ENGINE COMPARTMENT)

  5. Remove engine cover.

    > 108319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ENGINE COVER (DESIGN COVER) (V8 BITURBO) 

  6. Remove struts.

    > 408619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING STRUT (A-STRUT)

  7. Disconnect suction hoses -1-  . Open the clamps -2-  and pull off suction hoses.

  8. Remove air-cleaner cowl.

    > 242719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AIR-CLEANER COWL

  9. Remove air guide at the radiator frame.
    1. 9.1 Remove clips -2-  .
    2. 9.2 Remove air guide -1-  by pulling it upwards.

  10. Remove cover for front underbody.

    > 519219 Removing and installing cover for front underbody 

  11. Remove front-axle support.

    > 400819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT-AXLE SUPPORT

  12. Remove front wheel housing liners.

    > 505619 Removing and installing front wheel housing liner 

    WARNING: Refrigerant 
    • Danger of freezing 

      → Avoid contact with refrigerant.

      → Wear personal protective gear.

      → Observe the safety regulations for working on air-conditioned vehicles and handling refrigerant.

      → Observe the safety regulations for extraction and filling systems.

      → Observe the instructions for repairing air-conditioning systems and storing spare parts.

    NOTE: Opened refrigerant system for repairs. 
    • Moisture penetrated into the refrigerant system. 
    • Risk of contaminating the refrigerant circuit. 
    • Risk of saturation and irreparable damage to desiccator. 
    • Irreparable damage to the desiccator can damage the compressor and evaporator. 

    → The desiccator must be replaced if the air humidity is high and if the refrigerant circuit is left open for a long time.

    Information 

    • Open connections and lines must be closed off using suitable stoppers or caps. 
  13. Disconnect air-conditioning lines -1-  and -2-  at the condenser.
    1. 13.1 Loosen and unscrew screws -3-  using > VAS 6928 - Socket wrench set, 39-piece  .

  14. Remove exhaust system.

    > 260119 REMOVING AND INSTALLING EXHAUST SYSTEM

  15. Remove rear cardan shaft.

    > 393519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR CARDAN SHAFT

  16. Loosen moulded hose -1-  at the bottom on both sides of the charge-air cooler.
    1. 16.1 Loosen screw-type clamp -bottom arrow -  and pull off pressure hose.

    WARNING: Hot fluid 
    • Danger of scalding 

    → Let the fluid cool down.
    → Wear personal protective gear.
  17. Drain coolant.
    1. 17.1 High-temperature cooling system:

      > 193817 DRAINING AND FILLING COOLANT (INCLUDES BLEEDING)

    2. 17.2 Low-temperature cooling system: Loosen clamps -arrows-  and pull off coolant lines -1-  and -2-  .
    3. 17.3 Collect emerging coolant.

  18. Disconnect ground cable -1-  and -2-  on the front right longitudinal member.
    1. 18.1 Unscrew nuts -3-  and remove ground cable -1-  and -2-  .

  19. Loosen high-voltage lines from high-voltage battery to the power electronics.

    > 279319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING HIGH-VOLTAGE LINE FROM POWER ELECTRONICS TO HIGH-VOLTAGE BATTERY

  20. Disconnect high-voltage lines on the air-conditioning compressor.

    > 279319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING HIGH-VOLTAGE LINE FROM AIR-CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR TO CONNECTION POINT IN FRONT LEFT WHEEL HOUSING
