Completing reconditioned engine

  1. Convert heat shield for oil cooler.
    1. 1.1. Loosen fastening screws -1-  and remove heat shield -2-  .
    2. 1.2. Fit heat shield -2-  using new  fastening screws -1-  .
    3. 1.3. Tighten fastening screws -1 -  . Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ft lb.)

  2. Remove drive belt. → 137819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING DRIVE BELT
  3. Convert pressure pipe on both sides. → 214119 REMOVING AND INSTALLING PRESSURE PIPE
  4. Convert air-conditioning compressor. → 873419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AIR-CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR
  5. Convert deflection rollers for drive belt -1 and 2-  .

    Use new  fastening screws for installation. Tightening torque 32 Nm (24 ft lb.)

  6. Install drive belt. → 137819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING DRIVE BELT
  7. Loosen spring band clamp -1-  and convert coolant return line -2-  .

  8. Loosen single-lug clip -2-  and take positive crankcase ventilation line -1-  out of the holders -2 and 3-  .

  9. Convert coolant supply line.
    1. 9.1. Disconnect electric plug connection -4-  .
    2. 9.2. Loosen spring band clamp -2-  .
    3. 9.3. Unscrew fastening screws -3-  and remove coolant supply line.
    4. 9.4. Install coolant supply line on reconditioned engine.

      Tightening torque for fastening screws -3- Tightening torque 5 Nm (3.5 ft lb.)

  10. Insert positive crankcase ventilation line -1 -  into holders -2 and 4-  and secure with a new  single-lug clip -4-  .

    Check markings during installation.

  11. Convert drive plate. → 136319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING DRIVE PLATE
  12. Convert secondary-air pump with lines. → 266519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING SECONDARY-AIR PUMP
  13. Convert shut-off valve. → 266919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING SHUT-OFF VALVE
  14. Convert air injection line.
  15. Convert feed-through element -1-  for B+ line.

  16. Convert protection cap for starter -1-  .

  17. Convert holder for oxygen sensor cable.
    1. 17.1. Disconnect electric plug connections -2...5-  and remove connector from holder.
    2. 17.2. Unclip holder -1-  (-6-  ) and convert it.
    3. 17.3. Secure electric plug connections -2...5-  in holder.

      Position of plug connections:

      • Plug connection for oxygen sensor upstream of catalytic converter (cylinders 1-3) -2- 
      • Plug connection for oxygen sensor downstream of catalytic converter (cylinders 1-3) -3- 
      • Plug connection for oxygen sensor upstream of catalytic converter (cylinders 4-6) -4- 
      • Plug connection for oxygen sensor downstream of catalytic converter (cylinders 4-6) -5-

  18. Convert fuel line holder.
    1. 18.1. Loosen fastening screws -2-  and remove holder -1-  .
    2. 18.2. Fit holder -1-  with fastening screw -2-  .
    3. 18.3. Tighten fastening screw -2-  . Tightening torque 4.5 Nm (3.25 ft lb.)
