Adjusting Rear Door

WARNING: Incorrect handling of safety bolts
  • Danger of injury
  • Loss of torque

→ Always use new fastening screws and nuts following removal.

→ Observe specified tightening torques.

→ Carry out a visual inspection of all re-used parts.

Information 

Only tighten the fastening screws on the door hinges hand-tight from the inside until the doors are set correctly.

  1. Front door.
    1. 1.1. Unscrew fastening screws -1-, -2 and 3-  and replace them. The new screws must provisionally be tightened by hand only (max. 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)).

    2. 1.2. Hold a flat object (e.g. a credit card) at the B-pillar and measure the dimension -Q-  .

    3. 1.3. Set the contour with respect to the front door and rear side section by moving the door-side hinge halves on the door -4-  and -5-  vertically and horizontally. → GAP DIMENSIONS OF REAR DOOR

    4. 1.4. Tighten fastening screws -1-, -2 and 3-  to the specified tightening torque.

      → Initial tightening: 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)+/-3 Nm (+/-2 ftlb.) → Final tightening: 90°

  2. Adjust door near the lock.
    1. 2.1. Loosen the fastening screws -6-  . Set the contour with respect to the rear side section by moving the door lock striker -7-  both vertically and horizontally.
    2. 2.2. Tighten fastening screws -6-  to the specified tightening torque.

      → Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)+/-2 Nm (+/-1.5 ftlb.)

  3. Adjustment without built-in door sub-frame.
    1. 3.1. If the door is fitted without a sub-frame, the rear edge of the outer door panel must be installed higher with respect to the side section by the dimension -a- Test and adjustment value: 2 mm.  The door is lowered by approximately 2 mm when the door sub-frame is installed.
