Removing Front Side Member

  1. Remove wing strut. → REMOVING WING STRUT  - section on "Removing"

    Information 

    If it can be ensured there has been no deformation of the side member for the wheel housing upper section, the following repair can be carried out without removing it.

  2. Remove side member for upper part of wheel housing. → REMOVING SIDE MEMBER FOR WHEEL HOUSING UPPER SECTION  - section on "Removing"

    Information 

    • All straightening work on the body in the connection area of the sheetmetal parts to be replaced must be completed before the damaged parts are removed. 
  3. Mark and make cuts.

    1. 3.1. Mark position of cut on inner side member at dimension -A-  . → Cut dimension, old part: 263 mm 
    2. 3.2. Mark position of cut on outer side member at dimension -B-  .

      → Cut dimension, old part: 400 mm 

    3. 3.3. Cut completely through the inner and outer side members in the area marked.

  4. Remove front side member.

    Information 

    Only make cuts in the top plate. Make sure not to damage the plate underneath when doing this.

  5. Remove remaining piece of outer side member on the body.

    1. 5.1. Cut through the outer side member in the area marked.
    2. 5.2. Drill out spotwelds using spotweld drill  .
    3. 5.3. Remove remaining piece of outer side member.
