Installing Automatic Transmission

Information
- The adaptation values must be reset using the Porsche System Tester when the transmission is renewed/replaced. Code Tiptronic control unit → Coding the Tiptronic control unit .
CAUTION:
ATF pump can be damaged if not installed correctly.
- Risk of shearing off drivers on ATF pump pinion
→ Precisely align cut-outs on the converter hub with the drivers on the ATF pump pinion
→ Install the converter slowly and carefully
NOTE:
Torque converter installed incorrectly
- Risk of damage to transmission and torque converter
→ Always observe installation dimension
→ When securing the transmission, check that the torque converter can turn freely and is not jammed.
→ Do not use force when screwing the engine and transmission together
- Before installing the transmission, make sure that the torque converter is inserted correctly in the transmission

Information
- To position the converter with respect to the screwed opening in the driver plate, insert special tool centering pin into the converter -arrows- and move transmission in .
- Guide in transmission. Fit vent line -arrows- for the transfer gear and insert special tool Centering Pin 9689 into the converter.
- Screw in fastening screws used to secure transmission to engine. To do this, screw in four screws on the engine side and six screws on the transmission side.
- -1- - → Tightening Torque: 80 Nm (59 ft. lb.)
- -2a- - → Tightening Torque: 80 Nm (59 ft. lb.)
- -2- - → Tightening Torque: 80 Nm (59 ft. lb.)
- -3- - → Tightening Torque: 45 Nm (33 ft. lb.)
- -4- - → Tightening Torque: 80 Nm (59 ft. lb.)
- -5- - → Tightening Torque: 80 Nm (59 ft. lb.)
- Screw in new converter screws through the opening in the starter using special tool 3/8" - 5/16" bit connector and Torx T55 bit screwdriver insert Nr. 42-1 . → Tightening Torque: 85 Nm (63 ft. lb.)
- Turn the crankshaft further for the next converter screw using a Socket-Wrench Insert 9714 .
- Fit safety clip -A- on the selector lever cable and press cable onto the ball joint -arrow- .
- Press selector lever cable onto ball joint -arrow- .
- Fit sealing caps into the converter bell housing from below.
- Screw in fastening screws securing coolant pipes to the converter bell housing -arrows- . → Tightening Torque: 9 Nm (6.5 ft. lb.)
- Screw in fastening screw securing ATF line to transmission -arrow- . → Tightening Torque: 25 Nm (19 ft. lb.)
- Install ATF line holder on converter bell housing. → Tightening Torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lb.)
- Install starter → INSTALLING STARTER - section on "Installing".
- Screw in fastening screws -arrows- securing heat shield to transmission. → Tightening Torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lb.)
- Install heat shield on all-wheel final drive -arrows- . → Tightening Torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lb.)
- Unscrew ATF inspection plug -2-
and fill with ATF until a constant discharge is visible at the lifting tube.
- 15.1. Screw in ATF inspection plug. → Tightening Torque: 70 Nm (52 ft. lb.)
