Preliminary Work

  1. Remove vibration balancer. → 137619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING VIBRATION DAMPER (CRANKSHAFT PULLEY)
  2. Support the engine in the vehicle. → 1001IN SUPPORTING THE ENGINE ON THE BODY
  3. Remove engine carrier. To do this, remove the screws from the hydraulic mounts from below and remove them from the longitudinal member. → 103019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ENGINE CARRIER

    1. Front-axle final drive
    2. Front axle
    3. Steering gear

  4. Remove oil pan. → 175019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OIL PAN 
  5. Unclip coolant hoses from the clip on the oil/water heat exchanger. → Coolant return on oil/water heat exchanger

  6. Remove oil-pressure sender.

    1. 6.1. Release and pull off connector on oil-pressure sender.
    2. 6.2. Unscrew fastening screws -4-  and remove oil-pressure sender -3-  . The adapter -1-  is removed as well.
  7. Unscrew five screws -arrows-  between the timing-case cover and oil guide housing. (Four screws can be seen in the illustration, the fifth screw is behind the oil-pressure sender.)

  8. Disconnect coolant supply to the oil/water heat exchanger. To do this, clamp the coolant hoses for the oil/water heat exchanger with hose clamps. For example, use hose clamp 3093  or hose clamp 3094  . Pull the coolant hoses off the oil/water heat exchanger. Coolant will run out.
  9. Drain engine oil. → 170117 CHANGING ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER .
  10. For PDCC:  Remove fastening nuts -1-  on front wire assembly -2-  from the oil pan.

  11. On turbo engines, remove the two side oil extraction lines -5-  and (bottom illustration) -8-  from the oil guide housing.
    1. - Sealing ring
    2. - Oil extraction line
    3. - Screw, M6 x 12
    4. - Screw, M6 x 16
    5. - Seal for turbocharger, cylinders 1 to 4

    1. - Screw, M6 x 16
    2. - Oil extraction line
    3. - Seal for turbocharger, cylinders 5 to 8
    4. 10  - Sealing ring

  12. Release electric plug connection on the oil level sensor -a-  and expose the cable. Remove oil level sensor.

  13. Remove cable plug and joint flange -1, 2, 3-  on the oil pressure control valve.
    1. Screws, M6 x 20
    2. Sealing flange
    3. O-ring
    4. M6 screw; oil level sensor to oil guide housing
    5. Oil level sensor
    6. M6 screw; oil guide housing to lower part of crankcase

  14. Loosen ATF lines at the oil guide housing and lay them aside. → REMOVING LINES FOR ATF COOLING
