Procedure For Eliminating Noises From The Roof Assembly

Information

There must always be two people in the vehicle when performing test drives for the purpose of finding the source of noises - a driver, who simulates the situation in which the noise occurs, and a person to check the noise.

Optional accessories or objects must be removed from the vehicle before the test drive.

The test drive must be carried out on an even road surface, observing the road traffic regulations.

During the test drive, pay attention to the following information in order to localize the faults:

Check to see exactly where the noise is coming from on the roof assembly at the front or rear, left/right.
Check the cause of the noise, particularly related noises.

Sliding-roof panel/roof joint cover strip Check to see if there are strips of Teflon tape on the sliding-roof panel (contact surface between roof joint cover strip at the sides and front and cowl panel cover). If not: Retrofit strips of Teflon tape on the sliding-roof panel. Drive mechanism Clean and grease all moving parts of the drive mechanism. Check and adjust the preload. Check for stiffness following adjustment. Replace the end rubber stops if they are worn. For a description of the procedure, see: ==> REWORKING DRIVE MECHANISM ↓	Trim frame for rear window Check position of the side trim frame with respect to the rear trim frame and separate with Teflon tape if necessary. Check position of the side trim frame with respect to the rear window and separate with Teflon tape if necessary. Air deflector Clean and grease all moving parts of the air deflector. Clean and grease contact points, particularly points of contact with the sliding-roof panel. Replace rubber stops if they are worn. For a description of the procedure, see: ==> REWORKING AIR DEFLECTOR ↓
Seal for center joint Check seal for visible signs of wear on the antifriction coating. If this is OK: Clean and grease the seal. If this is not OK: Replace the seal. For a description of the procedure, see: ==> REWORKING SEAL FOR CENTRE JOINT .
Sunroof seal, bottom Clean and grease the seal. Replace sunroof seal at the bottom if the previous measure does not work. For a description of the procedure, see: ==> REWORKING SUNROOF SEAL AT THE BOTTOM
Sunroof seal, top Clean the flock-coating with a brush. Clean and grease contact points, particularly points of contact with the sliding-roof panel. Cowl panel cover Clean the flock-coating on the seal with a brush. Check fastening screws and rework them if necessary. For a description of the procedure, see: ==> REWORKING COWL PANEL COVER ↓
Perform a final test drive to check that the cause of the problem was corrected. ↓
If the noise is still there, contact the Technical Competence Center (TCC).
