Preparing Bonding Surfaces

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2013 Porsche 911, 2012 Porsche 911, 2011 Porsche 911, 2010 Porsche 911, and 2009 Porsche 911. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

To improve adhesion, the bonding surfaces must be roughened using sandpaper with a grain of 100 to 150.

Remove paint layers (cathodic immersion painting) using dry sandpaper or fibre discs with a grain of 100 to 150.

Only use abrasive products based on pure silicon carbide (SIC) for sanding/grinding down the bonding surface until bare.

The bare bonding flange areas must then be cleaned using a lint-free cloth soaked in acetone.

Leave cleaned surfaces to dry for approx. 1 - 2 minutes; bonding surfaces must be completely dry.

Apply primer to the cleaned surfaces.
