Installing Spark Plugs

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2013 Porsche 911, 2012 Porsche 911, 2011 Porsche 911, 2010 Porsche 911, and 2009 Porsche 911. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Heat protection panels not fitted correctly
  • Risk of damage to adjacent parts

→ Make sure the heat protection panels overlap correctly.

→ Replace damaged or deformed heat protection panels.

→ Check heat protection panels for deformation, secure fixing of the aluminum braided cord, cracks and missing or damaged fixing tabs.

→ At least 80% of the total sealing area must be sealed without gaps.

NOTE: Incorrect tool
  • Risk of damage to components

→ Use prescribed tool.

  1. Install spark plugs using Spark Plug Socket Wrench Nr. 14  and 3/8" Extension, 16° Moveable Nr. 15  .

    → Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 ft. lb.) 

    → Tightening torque: 25 Nm (19 ft. lb.) 

  2. Insert ignition coils into the spark-plug recesses and tighten the two M6 x 25 Torx screws on each one. → Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lb.) 
  3. Insert and tighten ignition coil screws that are difficult to reach (cylinder 2) using a Torx bit with a ball head.

  4. Connect cable plugs and position rubber sleeves on the coils. The cable plugs must engage audibly; check that they are seated securely.
  5. Insert the heat shields again and secure them using two Torx screws (M6 x 12) -arrows-  on each one. → Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lb.)

  6. Clip in hinge socket on electronic adjuster -1-  on cylinder bank 4-6.
  7. Insert and tighten hexagon socket head bolts (M6 x 25) -arrows-  using a long socket-wrench insert (a/f 5) with a ball head. → Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lb.)

  8. Insert and tighten hexagon socket head bolt (M6 x 25) -arrow-  using a long socket-wrench insert (a/f 5) with a ball head. → Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lb.)

  9. Connect cable plugs -1-  to the electronic adjusters and lock them.
    1. 9.1. The cable plugs must engage audibly. Pull on the plugs to check that they are seated securely.

  10. Fit heat protection panels at the sides.

    → 635019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR BUMPER .

    1. 10.1. To do this, fit and tighten two speed nuts on each.

      → Tightening torque: 4 Nm (3 ft. lb.) 

      WARNING: Danger of objects or loads falling down
      • Risk of squashing or crushing

      → Secure components to prevent them from falling down.

  11. Lift the engine with the mounting jack.
  12. Fit and tighten M12 collar nuts on the engine mountings. → Tightening torque: 85 Nm (63 ft. lb.) 
  13. Remove mounting jack.
  14. Press intake air lines with the rubber sleeves into the brackets -arrow-  .

  15. Fit new O-rings on the intake air lines and grease lightly with Kluber Syntheso Glep (available from Porsche Parts Service).
  16. Insert intake air lines into the flanges on the turbocharger.
  17. Fit M6 nut -1-  on the protective plate and tighten it. → Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lb.) 
  18. Fit Torx screws (M6 x 20) -arrows-  on the intake air lines and tighten them. → Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lb.)
