Leak-Testing The Vacuum System
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2013 Porsche 911, 2012 Porsche 911, 2011 Porsche 911, 2010 Porsche 911, and 2009 Porsche 911. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Open the engine compartment lid.NOTE: Engine cannot be started or stationary engine running with vacuum lines removed
- Modified vacuum conditions in the crankcase can damage the crankshaft sealing ring on the flywheel side.
- Oil leak at the damaged crankshaft sealing ring.
- Repair costs as a result of oil leak.
→ Before starting the engine, make sure that the removed vacuum lines are fitted again.
- Vehicles up to model year 2009:
Pull off vacuum hose -1-
on the vacuum line for the brake booster.
- 2.1. If the hose is difficult to pull off, spray the connection point with penetrating lubricant and leave it to take effect.
- Vehicles as of model year 2010:
Pull vacuum line -1-
out of the upper hose piece.
- 3.1. If the line is difficult to pull off, spray the connection point with penetrating lubricant and leave it to take effect.
Information
The following systems are also tested:
- Exhaust flaps
- Switching flaps on intake-air distributor
- Disc valve on transmission heat exchanger
- Connect test-connection of the Hand Vacuum Pump VAS 6213 WE 1341 -1- to the vacuum hose -2- (-arrow- ).
- Use the Hand Vacuum Pump VAS 6213 WE 1341 -1-
to create a vacuum of 0.8 bar
(11.5 psi).
- The greyed scale range from 0 to -1.0 bar (0 to -14.5 psi) is the vacuum range
- Check the vacuum system for the disc valve:
- 6.1. To do this, switch the ignition on and then off again.
- 6.2. The vacuum drops to approx. 0.2 bar (2.9 psi).
- 6.3. Use the pump again to create a vacuum of 0.8 bar (11.5 psi). The pressure must not drop any further.
- 6.4. If the vacuum drops, fix the leak in the system.
Information
- The PIWIS Tester II 9818 is required in order to check the exhaust flap and variable intake manifold systems (switching flaps on intake-air distributor).
- PIWIS Tester II 9818 must be connected to the vehicle.
- Prepare for the test using the Tester:
- 8.1. Select the vehicle type and start the PDIT.
- 8.2. Select the DME, Drive links/checks menu.
- 8.3. Select the Exhaust flap menu and press [F12] to continue.
- Use the hand vacuum pump VAS 6213 WE 1341 to create a vacuum of 0.8 bar (11.5 psi).
- Check the vacuum system for exhaust flaps:
- 10.1. Select Exhaust flap in the menu and press [F8] to activate it.
- 10.2. The vacuum drops to approx. 0.2 bar (2.9 psi).
- 10.3. Select Exhaust flap in the menu and press [F8] to deactivate it.
- 10.4. Use the pump again to create a vacuum of 0.8 bar (11.5 psi). The pressure must not drop any further.
- 10.5. If the vacuum drops, fix the leak in the system.
- Check the vacuum system for variable intake manifold 1/2:
- 11.1. Select Variable intake manifold 1 in the menu and press [F8] to activate it.
- 11.2. The vacuum drops to approx. 0.2 bar.
- 11.3. Select Variable intake manifold 1 in the menu and press [F8] to deactivate it.
- 11.4. Use the pump again to create a vacuum of 0.8 bar. The pressure must not drop any further.
- 11.5. If the vacuum drops, fix the leak in the system.
- Perform test for drive link for variable intake manifold 2 in the same way as for variable intake manifold 1.
- Push on vacuum line.
- 13.1. Pay attention to marking. The hose must be attached to the plastic line as far as the marking -arrow- .
- 13.2. Connect vacuum hose or vacuum line to the vehicle-specific plug connection.
