Removing Rear Lid
CAUTION:
Incorrect handling of gas-filled shock absorbers
- Gas-filled shock absorbers can burst
- Risk of eye injuries
- Risk of bruising
→ Gas-filled shock absorbers must be in idle state before removal.
→ Open the lid.
→ Secure the lid to prevent it from closing accidentally following removal of the gas-filled shock absorbers.
→ Do not use force to open the gas-filled shock absorbers because of their high internal pressure.
Information
The number of plug connections can vary, depending on equipment.
- Open the rear lid.

- Remove number plate lights. → REMOVING NUMBER PLATE LIGHT
Information
- Only remove the wiring harness from the rear lid as far as the lid hinge.
- Partially remove wire harness. → REMOVING AND INSTALLING WIRE HARNESS FOR TAILGATE
- Remove wire harness for actuating cylinder. → Removing And Installing Actuating Cylinder For Rear Lid 557319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ACTUATING CYLINDER FOR REAR LID
- Detach pneumatic spring at the top on both sides of the vehicle (another person is needed to prevent the rear lid from closing accidentally). → Loosening Rear Pneumatic Spring 559319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR PNEUMATIC SPRING
- Unscrew fastening screws -1- for rear lid and remove the lid.
