Changing ATF

Information
- Change the ATF when the engine/transmission is cold.
- Place oil collection pan underneath.WARNING: Hot fluid
- Danger of scalding
- Let the fluid cool down.
- Wear personal protective gear.
- Danger of scalding
- Unscrew oil drain plug -1-

ATF inspection plug
WARNING: Hot fluid- Danger of scalding
- Let the fluid cool down.
- Wear personal protective gear.
- Danger of scalding
- Unscrew the overflow pipe -2-
using an Allen key and drain ATF.
ATF oil drain plug
- Loosen the fastening screw -1
for the ATF lines -2-
at the bottom of the transmission -3-

Detaching ATF lines at the bottom
- Pull ATF lines out of the transmission and drain ATF.
Information
- The sealing rings at the ends of the ATF lines on the transmission and cooler sides must be replaced before installation.
- Position ATF lines -2-
with holder in the transmission -3-
.
Ensure that the lines are seated correctly.
Detaching ATF lines at the bottom
- Fit and tighten fastening screw -1-
.
> Tightening torque 20 (15 ftlb.) Nm
- To drain the front ATF lines, remove the ATF thermostat.
- As soon as the ATF has drained from the ATF lines, install the ATF thermostat.
- Screw the overflow pipe -2-
into the ATF pan.
> Tightening torque 2 (1.5 ftlb.) Nm
ATF inspection plug
- Screw adapter for filling ATF oil > VAS 6262/2 - Adapter for Filling ATF Oil
into the ATF pan hand-tight.
Information
- Only part of the total change quantity can be filled because of the test specifications stipulated for the ATF.
- The remaining quantity must then be filled as described under Checking and topping up ATF.
- Connect adapter for filling oil > VAS 6262A - Adapter for Oil Filling to the rapid-action coupling and fill in ATF.
- Pull off adapter for filling oil > VAS 6262A - Adapter for Oil Filling
at the rapid-action coupling and check to see if ATF emerges.
If no ATF emerges, fill in ATF until a constant discharge is visible at the lifting tube.
- Screw in oil drain plug -1-
and tighten it.
> Tightening torque 20 (15 ftlb.) Nm + 2 (1.5 ftlb.) Nm
ATF oil drain plug
- Check and top up ATF.
