Preliminary Work: Notes

Information 

• If more extensive work is planned, e.g. if the entire cylinder head is to be replaced, the exhaust manifolds, fuel injectors, high-pressure pump or vacuum pump must also be removed. 

1. Remove engine.

2. Remove engine from transmission

   and fit on the assembly support

   > WM, 1001IN SECURING V8 ENGINE ON ASSEMBLY SUPPORT

3. Loosen the turbocharger on turbo engines.

   > 213019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING TURBOCHARGER

4. Remove intake-air distributor.

   > 244619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INTAKE-AIR DISTRIBUTOR

5. Remove fuel distributor pipe.

   > 243019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FUEL DISTRIBUTOR PIPE

6. Remove chain housing cover.

   > 153319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CHAIN HOUSING COVER 

7. Remove timing chain.

   > WM, 153519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING TIMING CHAIN 

8. Remove deflector rail.

   > 154719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING GUIDE AND TENSIONING RAILS 

9. Remove camshafts.
