Preliminary Work

Information
The following repair instructions are only relevant for disassembling the engine.
- In the event of a leaking chain housing cover, refer to
> WM, 153351 SEAL THE CHAIN HOUSING COVER (ENGINE INSTALLED) .
- Removing engine.
- Remove transmission from engine and suspend engine on the assembly support
> 1001IN SECURING ENGINE ON ASSEMBLY SUPPORT (MOUNTING BRACKET)
- Drain engine oil. For details, see > 170117 DRAINING AND FILLING ENGINE OIL (CHANGING ENGINE OIL)
- Remove drive belt. For details, see > 137819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING DRIVE BELT
- Remove coolant hoses in front of the chain housing cover. Don't forget the holder. > Coolant return line on turbo engine, for example

1 Connection piece on alternator 2 Connection piece screw 3 Screw, M6 x 20 4 Coolant return line 5 Coolant return hose assembly 6 Bracket 7 M6 screw Aluminium screw ; Always use new aluminium screws 8 Clip - Remove both cylinder head covers.
- Remove vibration damper.
> WM, 137619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING VIBRATION DAMPER (CRANKSHAFT PULLEY)
- Remove joint flange behind the vibration damper and do not re-installed old flange.
> WM, 137419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING SEALING RING FOR CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
- Remove oil pan and oil guide housing.
