Installing Side Member Reinforcement

Information 

• Before final assembly, make sure you fully understand all the work steps involved and carry out a trial assembly without applying adhesive. 
• The bonding process can only be carried out reliably when a smooth and swift sequence of operations is guaranteed. 
• Do not begin bonding work until all materials and tools necessary for later repair work are available. 

1. Apply adhesive.
   1. 1.1. Apply adhesive. → Application depth: 3.0 mm 

      Working with body structural adhesive → 5X00IN WORKING WITH BODY STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE

2. Fit inner A-pillar panel, side member inner panel and side member reinforcement, A-pillar reinforcement, B-pillar inner panel and reinforcement and (outer) rear wheel housing section.

   Information 

   Once the spare parts have been fixed in place, repair spotwelds A  must be placed exactly on the old spotwelds because there is no current flow possible in areas with a hardened adhesive layer.

3. Resistance spot-weld side member reinforcement.
4. Remove A-pillar reinforcement, inner panel and B-pillar reinforcement.

   Information

6. Weld in side member inner panel and (outer) rear wheel housing.
   1. 6.1. Plug-weld using inert gas -A-  .
   2. 6.2. Spot-weld using inert gas -B-  .

7. Apply a full weld using inert gas.

8. Plug-weld the inner A-pillar panel using inert gas -A-  .

9. Apply a welded seam to the inner A-pillar panel using inert gas -B-  .
10. Apply a welded seam to the side member inner panel using inert gas -arrows-  .

11. Resistance spot-weld side member reinforcement -A-  .
12. Apply a welded seam to the side member reinforcement using inert gas -B-  .

13. Apply body sealant to the sealing element. Bond sealing elements.

14. Stick on insulating mat.
