8007 Pcm2 MMI: Diagnosis/troubleshooting

TROUBLESHOOTING (8007 PCM2 MMI)

Work instruction Display OK If not OK
1 Read out PCM2 fault memory.
  • Connect the Porsche System Tester II 9588 to the diagnostic socket, start it and switch on the ignition.
  • Select 911 (996) in the Vehicle type menu and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Select PCM in the Control modules menu and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Select PCM2 MMI in the PCM2 function selection and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Select Fault memory in the 911 (996) PCM2 MMI function selection and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Read out fault memory.
  • Clear fault memory.
  • Remove ignition key and switch on ignition again.
  • Read out fault memory.
  • Extract ambient data, press the "FORWORD" key.
 The fault is remedied
-> End		 Fault code is still displayed
Step 2
2 Read out extended fault memory.
  • Select Extended fault memory in the 911 (996) PCM2 MMI function selection and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
   A short circuit to ground is displayed

A short circuit to B+ is displayed
Step 5
3 Check diagnosis distribution line for short circuit to ground.
  • Switch off the ignition.
  • Disconnect plug connector on PCM2.
  • Disconnect plug connector on external Harman/BOSE amplifier (if installed).
  • Disconnect plug connector on CD changer (if installed).
  • Disconnect plug connector on telephone/telematics (if installed).
  • Measure the resistance between the wake-up/diagnosis distribution line and ground.
 Step 4 If the measured value is not reached, correct short circuit to ground in diagnosis distribution line.

4 Determine faulty MOST control module. Reconnect all disconnected plug connectors on existing MOST control modules and check the resistance again.
  • Reconnect plug connector on telephone/telematics (if installed) and read out measuring device.
  • Reconnect plug connector on CD changer and read out measuring device.
  • Reconnect plug connector on external Harman/BOSE amplifier (if installed) and read out measuring device.
  • Remove navigation module from PCM2 (if installed), then reconnect plug on the PCM2 and read out measuring device.
  • Re-insert navigation module into the PCM2 and read out measuring device.
 Step ? If a message appears on the measuring device display when you connect a MOST component, this MOST control module must be replaced.

5 Check diagnosis distribution line for short circuit to B+
  • Switch off the ignition.
  • Disconnect plug connector on PCM2.
  • Disconnect plug connector on external Harman/BOSE amplifier (if installed).
  • Disconnect plug connector on CD changer (if installed).
  • Disconnect plug connector on telephone/telematics (if installed).
  • Switch on ignition.
  • Measure the voltage between the wake-up/diagnosis distribution line and ground.
 < 0.5 V > 0.5 V
Check wake-up/diagnosis lead for short circuit to B+ and repair if necessary.
6 Replace MOST control module.
  • Erase fault memory and then read it out again.
