8004 External Harman amplifier: Diagnosis/troubleshooting

DIAGNOSIS/TROUBLESHOOTING (8004 EXTERNAL HARMAN AMPLIFIER)

1 Check the front left wiring harness and loudspeaker and the left door speaker
  • Connect and start the Porsche System Tester II 9588 and switch on the ignition.
  • Select 911 (996) in the Vehicle type menu and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Select PCM in the Control units menu and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Select External Harman amplifier in the 911 (996) PCM2 function selection and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Select Fault memory in the 911 (996) external Harman amplifier function selection and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Read out fault memory.
  • Erase fault memory.
  • Remove ignition key and switch on ignition again.
  • Read out fault memory.
  • Extract ambient data, press the "FORWORD" key.
-> End Fault code is still displayed
Step 2
2 Check the front left wiring harness and loudspeaker and the left door speaker
  • Switch off ignition.
  • Pull off plug A on the amplifier.
  • Check resistance on plug A, pins 27 and 32.

3 Check the front left wiring harness and loudspeaker and the left door speaker
  • Switch off ignition.
  • Pull off plug A on the amplifier.
  • Measure resistance on plug A, pins 25 and 38.

4 Check the wiring harness to the front left door speaker and the left door speaker
  • Pull off the plugs on the loudspeakers.
  • Check the resistance in the wire between pin 32 on plug A of the amplifier and pin 2 of the plug for the front right door speaker.

Open circuit in the wire/short circuit to ground. Repair wiring harness

5 Check the wiring harness to the front left door speaker and the left door speaker
  • Check the resistance in the wire between pin 27 on plug A of the amplifier and pin 1 of the plug for the front right door speaker.

Open circuit in the wire/short circuit to ground. Repair wiring harness
-> End
6 Check the wiring harness to the front left door speaker and the left door speaker
  • Check the resistance in the wire between pin 25 on plug A of the amplifier and pin 2 of the plug for the front left door speaker.

Open circuit in the wire/short circuit to ground. Repair wiring harness
-> End
7 Check wiring harness to the front left door speaker
  • Check the resistance in the wire between pin 38 on plug A of the amplifier and pin 1 of the plug for the front left door speaker.

Open circuit in the wire/short circuit to ground. Repair wiring harness
-> End
8 Replace front left loudspeaker -> End Step 10
9 Replace front left door speaker -> End Step 10
10 Replace amplifier -> End
