Diagnosis/troubleshooting for Harman

DIAGNOSIS/TROUBLESHOOTING (8003 EXTERNAL HARMAN AMPLIFIER)

1 Read out external amplifier fault memory
  • Connect and start the Porsche System Tester II 9588 and switch on the ignition.
  • Select 911 (996) in the Vehicle type menu and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Select PCM in the Control units menu and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Select External Harman amplifier in the 911 (996) PCM2 function selection and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Select Fault memory in the External Harman amplifier function selection and confirm with the "FORWORD" key.
  • Read out fault memory.
  • Erase fault memory.
  • Remove ignition key and switch on ignition again.
  • Read out fault memory.
  • Extract ambient data, press the "FORWORD" key.
-> End Fault code is still displayed

2 Check wiring harness and left dashboard loudspeaker
  • Switch off ignition.
  • Pull off plug A on the amplifier.
  • Measure resistance on plug A, pins 5 and 14.
= 4

3 Check wiring harness to left dashboard loudspeaker
  • Pull off the plugs on the loudspeakers.
  • Check the resistance in the wire between pin 5 on plug A of the amplifier and pin 2 of the plug for the front right door speaker.

Repair circuit in wiring harness

4 Check wiring harness to left dashboard loudspeaker
  • Pull off the plug on the left dashboard loudspeaker.
  • Check the resistance in the wire between pin 14 on plug A of the amplifier and pin 1 of the plug for the front right door speaker.

Repair open circuit in wire

5 Check wiring harness to left dashboard loudspeaker
  • Pull off the plugs on the loudspeakers.
  • Check the resistance in the wire from pin 5 on plug A of the amplifier to pin 14.
Step 6 Repair short circuit in wiring harness
-> End
6 Check wiring harness to left dashboard loudspeaker
  • Check the resistance in the wire from pin 14 on plug A of the amplifier to ground.
Step 7 Short circuit to ground. Repair wiring harness
-> End
7 Check wiring harness to left dashboard loudspeaker
  • Check the resistance in the wire from pin 5 on plug A of the amplifier to ground.
Step 8 Short circuit to ground. Repair wiring harness
-> End
8 Check wiring harness to left dashboard loudspeaker
  • Check the voltage of the wire from pin 5 on plug A of the amplifier to ground.
  • Switch ignition on.

Repair short circuit to B+ in the wiring harness

9 Check wiring harness to left dashboard loudspeaker
  • Check the voltage of the wire from pin 14 on plug A of the amplifier to ground.
  • Switch ignition on.

Repair short circuit to B+ in the wiring harness
-> End
10 Check wiring harness and right dashboard loudspeaker
  • Switch off ignition.
  • Pull off plug A on the amplifier.
  • Measure resistance on plug A, pins 6 and 15.

  • Pull off the plugs on the loudspeakers.
  • Check the resistance in the wire between pin 6 on plug A of the amplifier and pin 1 of the plug for the front right door speaker.

Repair open circuit in wiring harness

  • Check the resistance in the wire between pin 15 on plug A of the amplifier and pin 2 of the plug for the front right door speaker.

  • Check the resistance in the wire from pin 6 on plug A of the amplifier to pin 14.

  • Check the resistance in the wire from pin 15 on plug A of the amplifier to ground.
Step 15 Short circuit to ground. Repair wiring harness

  • Check the resistance in the wire from pin 6 on plug A of the amplifier to ground.
Step 16 Short circuit to ground. Repair wiring harness

16 Check wiring harness to right dashboard loudspeaker
  • Check the voltage of the wire from pin 6 on plug A of the amplifier to ground.
  • Switch ignition on.

Repair short circuit to B+ in the wiring harness

  • Check the voltage of the wire from pin 15 on plug A of the amplifier to ground.
  • Switch ignition on.

18 Check left dashboard loudspeaker
  • Check resistance on plug A of the loudspeaker, pins 1 and 2.
