Refitting Used Connecting Rods
Information
Always replace used connecting rod bolts.
- Dispose of old connecting rod bolts.WARNING: Caustic fluids
- Danger of chemical burns
→ Avoid contact with caustic fluid.
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Ensure that there is good ventilation.
→ If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.
- Mount connecting rod on the crankshaft using new connecting rod bolts.
- 2.1. Clean thread on connecting rod cap using a nylon brush and solvent naphtha (e.g. Meta Clean 366). Blow out connecting rod thread with compressed air.
- 2.2. Insert new connecting rod bearings and coat with new engine oil.
- 2.3. Clean new connecting rod bolts with solvent naphtha (Meta Clean 366).
- 2.4. Dry connecting rod bolts with compressed air.
- 2.5. Coat screw thread and screw contact surface with new engine oil.
- 2.6. Mount connecting rod (observe matching number) and tighten connecting rod bolts by hand.
- 2.7. Fit connecting rod bolts according to specifications (see TECHNICAL VALUES TABLE ).
