Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), also known as air bag system, provides increased accident protection for driver and passenger by deploying front air bag units and seat belt pretensioners in a front-end collision and side air bag units in a side or lateral collision.

The air bag system consists of a control unit (triggering unit), contact ring (clockspring), right and left side air bag sensors, driver-side air bag unit, passenger-side air bag unit, right and left side air bag units, child restraint system plug connection, belt buckle switch for driver, belt buckle switch for passenger, seat belt pretensioners and AIR BAG warning light. Diagnosis is possible using Porsche System Tester 2.

When child restraint system is used, passenger-side and right side air bag units must be deactivated. A plug connection is installed under the passenger-side front seat for this purpose. The tongue of the child restraint system must be inserted into this plug connection.
