Ring Gear Adjustment

  1. Clamp final drive in a vise. Install differential with ring gear into final drive housing. Install side cover (without shims) and tighten all bolts to specifications.
  2. Guide second cover (without shims) into place on the case and check gap between case and side cover. Determine shim thickness by subtracting bearing preload .012" (.30 mm) from gap measurement. Resulting shim thickness is "S" total.
