Determining Distance "X"
- Crankshaft must contact rear thrust bearing. Use a lever to press flywheel in direction of transmission, until axial play of crankshaft is eliminated.
- Using Measuring Gauge (9211), determine distance "A" by measuring distance from engine flange to flywheel mating surface. Note thickness of gauge when measuring.
- If measured value is 2.067" (52.5 mm), subtract 1.57" (40 mm). Distance "A" will be .49" (12.5 mm). Mount transmission on central tube to specified torque. Install clamping sleeve mounting bolt by hand (DO NOT TIGHTEN ). See Fig 1.
- Push drive flange and bushing (without shims), on to central shaft and install circlip. Use a lever and push central shaft on drive flange far enough forward, that central shaft rests on rear clamping screw in shaft groove.
- Tighten rear mounting bolt of clamping sleeve 54-61 ft. lbs. (75-85 N.m). Push drive flange forward against stop on circlip and tighten bolt.
- Determine distance "B". Using Measuring Bar (9211), measure distance from clutch housing to drive plate bearing surface (as far in as possible). Mark thickness of gauge used for measuring.
- To determine shim thickness for shim "X" use the following formula: Distance "A" minus "B" plus preload of .012" (.3 mm) equals distance "X".
- Install total shim thickness "X". Shims are available in thicknesses of .008" (.2 mm), .020" (.5 mm) and .039" (1.0 mm). Tighten front mounting bolt for drive flange only after central tube has been installed.
