Clutches "K1" & "K2": Reassembly

  1. Install seals in piston with sealing lips facing downward. Install Assembler and Sleeve (9318 & 9317) in outer plate carrier. Press piston into outer plate carrier. Ensure piston is straight in carrier.
  2. Install spring in piston and place on diaphragm spring. When installing springs, they must be centered by guide pins.
  3. Install snap ring and remove Assembler (9315). Check that snap ring fits properly. Install diaphragm spring with curved surface toward piston. Assemble plates and install plate carrier.
NOTE: New inner plates must be placed in ATF for about one hour before installing.
  4. Push up snap ring around entire periphery with a screwdriver. Using feeler gauge, check snap ring-to-plate clearance. Clearance should be .027-.047" (.7-1.2 mm). See Fig 1.

  5. Snap ring clearance can be adjusted with snap rings that are available in 3 thicknesses (2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 mm). If specification cannot be reached with snap rings, the center and outer plates may also be used for adjustment. See Fig 2.
