Direct and Reverse Clutch Disassemble

Special Tools

• J 38734:  Intermediate Spring Compressor Adapter
• J 45139:  Compressor Plate

1. Remove the reverse clutch backing plate retainer (420).
2. Remove the backing plate (419).
3. Remove the clutch plates (418, 417). Refer to Clutch Plate Selection Specifications .
4. Remove the apply plate (416).
5. Remove the reverse clutch spacer (415).

6. Remove the direct clutch backing plate retainer ring (414).
7. Remove the backing plate (413).
8. Remove the clutch plates (412, 411). Refer to Clutch Plate Selection Specifications .
9. Remove the apply plate (410).

10. Use J 38734:  compressor adapter and J 45139:  compressor plate to compress the direct and reverse piston spring.
11. Remove the direct and reverse clutch spring retainer ring (409).
12. Remove J 38734:  compressor adapter and J 45139:  compressor plate.

13. Remove the spring retainer (408).
14. Remove the spring (407).

NOTE: It may be necessary to use air pressure to remove the piston.
15. Remove the direct clutch piston (406).

16. Remove the reverse clutch piston (404).
17. Remove the reverse clutch piston inner seal (402).
