1-2-Reverse Clutch Piston Travel Measurement: Measurement

- Inspect the sliding surface of the plates for being worn or burnt. If the plates are worn or burnt, replace them.
- Install the J-45166: extension (1) into the forward clutch accumulator bolt hole that was not installed on the prior step. Assemble J-45200: indicator (2) onto J-45166: extension (1) and set the dial indicator to zero.
- Apply compressed air into the fluid passage in order to measure the piston stroke, and to be sure that the piston moves smoothly.
- If the piston stroke is not within specifications, select another 1-2 reverse clutch backing plate. Refer to 1-2 Reverse Clutch (B5), Piston Bore Stroke in Transmission Clearance Specifications .
WARNING:
When you use compressed air in order to clear fluid passages and to dry parts, always aim the air pressure away from face and eyes. Always wear adequate eye protection in order to avoid injury from dirt and debris that may adhere to parts.
