Transmission Control Module Replacement

Callout Component Name

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Remove the left front fender. Refer to Front Fender Replacement .
  2. Reposition the windshield washer solvent container. Refer to Washer Solvent Container Replacement .
1 Electronic Control Module (ECM)
Tip:  Remove the ECM from the ECM Bracket but do not disconnect the ECM electrical connectors.
2 ECM Bracket Bolt (Qty: 3)
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .

Tighten:  10 N.m (89 lb in)

3 ECM Bracket
4 Transmission Control Module (TCM) Bolt (Qty: 3)

Tighten:  10 N.m (89 lb in)

5 TCM
IMPORTANT: Twisting or tilting of the transmission control module electrical connector while disconnecting may result in bent or misaligned electrical terminal pins.

Tip: 
  • Disconnect the TCM electrical connector.
  • A new TCM requires programming. Refer to Control Module References .
  • It is recommended that transmission adaptive pressure (TAP) information be reset. Resetting the TAP values using a scan tool will erase all learned values in all cells. As a result, The ECM, PCM or TCM will need to relearn TAP values. Transmission performance may be affected as new TAP values are learned. Reset the TAP values. Refer to Transmission Adaptive Functions .
