Intermediate Shaft Removal

Tools Required
- J 34826 Hub Nut Socket. See Special Tools .
- J 8614-01 Countershaft Driven Gear Holder
- J 35421 Rack End Bushing Installer. See Special Tools .
- J 8092 Driver Handle
- J 37758 Countershaft Rear Plug Installer. See Special Tools .
- Remove the 13 bolts and the rear case cover (1) from the transaxle case.
- Unstake the intermediate shaft locknut (1) and unstake the counter shaft locknut.
- Install the J 8614-01 onto the countershaft driven gear (2) in order to hold the countershaft driven gear (1) stationary during the removal of the intermediate shaft lock nut.
- Use the J 34826 in order to remove the intermediate shaft locknut from the intermediate shaft. See Special Tools .
- Remove the J 8614-01 from the countershaft driven gear.
- Remove the intermediate shaft (2) from the transaxle case (1).
- Use the J 35421 with the J 8092 and a hydraulic press (1) in order to remove the countershaft drive gear from the transaxle case.
- Remove the countershaft drive gear inner bearing (2) from the transaxle case.
- Remove the crush sleeve from the countershaft drive gear.
- Remove the countershaft drive gear outer race snap ring (2) from the countershaft drive gear outer race (1).
- Use the J 37758 with the J 8092 and a hydraulic press in order to remove the countershaft drive gear outer race from the transaxle case.
