Dome Lamps Always On

Schematic Reference:  Interior Lights Schematics  
1 Did you review the Lighting System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections? Go to Step 2  Go to Symptoms - Lighting Systems 
2 Verify that the dome lamps are always on.
Does the system operate normally?
Go to Testing for Electrical Intermittents Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect them multifunction alarm module.
  2. Disconnect C2 of the left instrument panel junction block.
Did the dome lamps turn off?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 7

  1. Disconnect C11 of the instrument panel fuse block.
  2. Test for a short to ground at C2 cavities 9 and 10 of the left instrument panel junction block. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

    Did you find and repair the short to ground?

Go to Step 10  Go to Step 5

  1. Disconnect C5 of the instrument panel fuse block.
  2. Test for a short to ground at cavities 14, 15 and 16. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

    Did you find and repair the short to ground?

Go to Step 10  Go to Step 6 
6 Replace the instrument panel harness. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Harness Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 10  -

  1. Disconnect the instrument panel lamp dimmer.
  2. Test for a short to ground at cavity 1 of the I/P lamp dimmer harness. Refer to Circuit Testing andWiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and complete the repair?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 8

  1. Disconnect C7 of the instrument panel fuse block.
  2. Test for a short to ground at cavity 3 of C7. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and complete the repair?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 9

  1. Disconnect C3 of the instrument panel fuse block.
  2. Test for a short to ground at cavity 6 of C3. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and complete the repair?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 6 
10 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
