Outside Air Temperature Display Inaccurate or Inoperative

Step Action Yes No
Schematic Reference:  Instrument Cluster Schematics
1 Did you review the Instrument Cluster Description and perform the necessary inspections? Go to Step 2  Go to Symptoms - Lighting Systems
2 Verify the outside temperature display is inaccurate or inoperative.
Does the system operate normally?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections Go to Step 3
3 Measure the resistance between cavity 1 and 2 of the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor. Refer to Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Resistance  for proper resistance specifications.
Is resistance within specs?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 11
4 With the ignition in the ON position. Test cavity 1 of the ambient air temperature sensor harness connector for a 5 volt reference signal. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
Is the voltage present?
Go to Step 5  Go to Step 6
5 Test cavity 2 of the ambient temperature sensor harness connector for continuity to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
Is a ground present?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 7
6 With the ignition in the ON position. Test cavity 38 of the Instrument panel cluster harness connector for a 5 volt reference signal.Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
Is the voltage present?
Go to Step 8  Go to Step 10
7 Test cavity 39 of the Instrument panel cluster harness connector for continuity to ground.
Is a ground present?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 10
8 Repair the open or high resistance in 5 volt referance circuit between cavity 38 of the I/P cluster and caity 1 of the ambient air temperature sensor. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 12  -
9 Repair the open or high resistance in the ambient temperature sensor ground circuit between cavity 39 of the I/P cluster and cavity 2 of the ambient temperature sensor Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 12  -
10 Replace the Instrument Panel Cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 12  -
11 Replace the ambient air temperature sensor.
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 12  -
12 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
