Test F: Driver Information Center Compass Inaccurate Or C Displayed

  1. If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument panel cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Verify compass is inaccurate or "C" is displayed. If compass does not operate normally, go to next step. If compass operates normally, concern may be intermittent. For aid in diagnosing intermittent problems, see PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS  under INTERMITTENTS.
  3. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If compass display is not blank, go to next step. If compass is blank, go to step  5.
  4. If compass displays "CAL" or "C", go to next step. If compass does not display "CAL" or "C", go to step  6.
  5. Perform compass calibration. See ELECTRONIC COMPASS CALIBRATION  under ADJUSTMENTS. If compass does not operate normally, go to next step. If compass operates normally, go to step  8.
  6. Perform compass variance procedure. See COMPASS MAGNETIC VARIATION ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS. If compass does not operate normally, go to next step. If compass operates normally, go to step  8.
  7. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  8. Check system for normal operation. If system operates normally, test is complete. If system does not operate normally, go to step  3.
