Intake & Exhaust Manifolds: Installation

  1. Manifold gasket surfaces must be flat within .006" (.15 mm) per 12" (305 mm). Steel manifold gasket must be coated with Sealant (3419115). If composition gasket is used, DO NOT  use sealant.
  2. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts or nuts to specification, starting at the center and working outward in both directions. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  at end of article.
  3. Fill cooling system. Remove plug from top of thermostat housing. Allow air to bleed from cooling system. Install plug once coolant reaches thermostat housing level.


  1. Manifold gasket surfaces must be flat within .006" (.15 mm) per 12" (305 mm). DO NOT  use sealant on manifold gaskets. Install gasket, exhaust manifold and intake manifold. Tighten bolts or nuts to specification, starting in the center and working outward in both directions.
  2. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Coat turbo mounting studs with anti-seize. Install turbo. Tighten turbo-to-cylinder block bracket bolt at cylinder block first and then at the turbo. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  at end of article. Coat all line fittings with sealant. Coat injector and fuel pressure regulator "O" rings with clean engine oil.
  3. Ensure fuel rail is drawn evenly into cylinder head when tightening bolts to specification. Fill cooling system. Remove plug from top of thermostat housing. Allow air to bleed from cooling system. Install plug once coolant reaches thermostat housing level.
