Removal (Colt Wagon 1.8L)

  1. Release residual fuel pressure from fuel system. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE  in this article.
    NOTE: Manufacturer suggests removing engine and transaxle as a unit.
  2. Remove hood, air cleaner, battery and battery tray. Drain cooling system, engine oil, transaxle oil and clutch fluid. Remove radiator and heater hoses.
  3. Remove fuel lines, vacuum hoses and electrical connections from engine. Disconnect electrical connectors and speedometer cable at transaxle. Disconnect accelerator cable. Disconnect clutch line at slave cylinder and control cables at transaxle.
  4. Disconnect A/C compressor and power steering pump from engine and secure with wire. Raise and support vehicle. Remove undercover and disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
  5. Remove drive axles. See FWD AXLE SHAFTS article in the DRIVE AXLES section. Lower vehicle and install engine hoist. Raise engine slightly. Mark lower surface of support rod (roll rod) for installation reference and remove rod assembly.
  6. Remove front and rear roll stopper insulator (engine mount) bolts. Remove transaxle mounting bracket bolts. Remove insulator bolt from front engine mount. Remove engine/transaxle assembly from vehicle. Push transaxle side downward while removing.
CAUTION: Replace drive axle shaft retainer rings whenever drive axle shafts are removed from transaxle.
