Removal (Colt Vista 2.0L)

  1. Release residual fuel pressure from fuel system. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE  in this article.
    NOTE: Manufacturer suggests removing engine and transaxle as a unit.
  2. Remove hood and air cleaner assembly. Remove battery and battery tray. Drain cooling system and engine oil. Drain transaxle oil. Drain transfer case (4WD). Remove radiator.
  3. Disconnect all necessary electrical connectors, vacuum hoses, fuel hoses, coolant hoses and cables. Leaving hoses connected, remove power steering pump and A/C compressor and support to one side with wire.
  4. Remove drive belts and exhaust manifold heat shield. On A/T models, disconnect control cables and feed hoses from transaxle. On M/T models, remove clutch slave unit from transaxle.
  5. On 4WD models, remove stabilizer bar and strut bar from lower control arm. Disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle. Remove drive shaft. Remove panel from upper front side of engine compartment. On all models, remove axle shafts. See FWD AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVE AXLES.
  6. Remove speedometer cable and remaining hose or wiring connectors. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold. Disconnect front and rear lower engine mounts. Support engine with hoist.
  7. Remove upper engine mount bracket assembly. Raise engine slightly. Ensure all cables, hoses and electrical harnesses are disconnected from engine. Lift engine and transaxle assembly upward from vehicle to remove from engine compartment.
