Parking Brake Shoe

  1. Remove the rear caliper bracket. Refer to BRAKE CALIPERS .
  2. Remove the rotor. Refer to BRAKE ROTORS .
  3. Loosen the adjusting nut on the parking brake cable until the lever is at the rest position. Refer to PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  4. Set the Drum-to-Brake Shoe Clearance Gage (J 21177-A) so that the Drum-to-Brake Shoe Clearance Gage (J 21177-A) contacts the inside diameter of the rotor. See Figure.
  5. Position the Drum-to-Brake Shoe Clearance Gage (J 21177-A) over the shoe and lining at the widest point.
  6. Turn the adjuster nut until the lining just contacts the Drum-to-Brake Shoe Clearance Gage (J 21177-A).
  7. Repeat steps 2) through 5) for the opposite side.
  8. Adjust the adjusting nut on the rear parking brake cable. Refer to PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  9. To install, reverse removal procedures.
