  1. With ignition switch in RUN position, enter self-diagnostics. See, under ON-VEHICLE DIAGNOSIS  , ENTERING IPC SELF-DIAGNOSIS. Select IPC input II09. Operate tachometer switch.
  2. With tachometer switch released, display should indicate HI. With tachometer switch depressed, display should indicate LO. If display indicates LO with tachometer switch released, go to next step. If display indicates HI with tachometer switch depressed, go to step 4).
  3. Remove left tachometer switch assembly. Refer to, under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION, LEFT TACHOMETER SWITCH  . If display now indicates HI, replace left tachometer switch assembly. If display indicates LO, check White wire from terminal B11 for a short to ground. If wire is okay, replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  .
  4. If display indicates HI with tachometer switch depressed, remove left tachometer switch assembly. Refer to, under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION, LEFT TACHOMETER SWITCH  . Connect a fused jumper wire between left tachometer switch assembly terminals B11 (White wire) and B7 (Black wire).
  5. If display indicates HI, go to next step. If display indicates LO, check all connections. If connections are okay, replace left tachometer switch assembly.
  6. Connect a fused jumper wire between left tachometer switch assembly terminal B11 (White wire) and ground. If display indicates HI, go to next step. If display indicates LO, repair Black wire from terminal B7.
  7. Remove IPC. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  . Connect an ohmmeter between IPC connector terminal D13 (White wire) and left switch assembly terminal B11 (White wire). If zero ohms are present, replace IPC after checking for good terminal contact. If high resistance is present, check and repair White wire between terminals B11 and D13 for an open circuit.
