Removal and Installation: Removal

WARNING:
  • Be sure to read Precaution for Handling High Pressure Fuel System  when working on the high pressure fuel system.
  • Put a "CAUTION: FLAMMABLE" sign in the workshop.
  • Be sure to work in a well ventilated area and furnish workshop with a CO 2 fire extinguisher.
  • Do not smoke while servicing fuel system. Keep open flames and sparks away from the work area.
CAUTION:
  • Do not remove or disassemble parts unless instructed as shown in the figure, above.
  • Be sure to follow the tightening instruction to avoid fuel leakage.
NOTE: When removing components such as hoses, tubes/lines, etc., cap or plug openings to prevent fluid from spilling.
  1. Release fuel pressure. Refer to Work Procedure .
  2. Remove intake manifold. Refer to Removal and Installation .
  3. Remove bolts (A) and remove high pressure fuel pump cover (1).

  4. Remove high pressure fuel pump insulator.
  5. Release clip (A) and disconnect fuel feed hose (1) from high pressure fuel pump (2).

  6. Disengage fuel feed hose from clip and reposition.
  7. Remove bolts from fuel feed tube bracket and reposition fuel feed tube bracket and harness.
  8. Remove insulator. Refer to Exploded View .
  9. Remove fuel feed tube.
    CAUTION: Do not reuse fuel feed tube.
  10. Disconnect harness connector from high pressure fuel pump.
  11. Remove high pressure fuel pump bolts while alternating sides frequently and remove high pressure fuel pump and lifter.
    CAUTION:
    • Do not reuse O-ring.
    • Do not disassemble plunger on bottom of high pressure fuel pump.
