Tie Rods

Outer Tie Rod
REMOVAL
- Remove the wheel and tire assembly using power tool. Refer to Adjustment .
- Loosen the outer tie rod jam nut.
- Remove the cotter pin (A) and nut (B) from the outer tie rod. Separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using suitable tool. Discard the cotter pin.
- Remove the outer tie rod from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse cotter pins.
- Tighten the fasteners to specification. Refer to Exploded View - Steering Linkage .
- Check wheel alignment. Refer to Front Wheel Alignment .
Inner Tie Rod
REMOVAL
- Remove the wheel and tire assembly using power tool. Refer to Adjustment .
- Remove the cotter pin (A) and nut (B) from the inner tie rod. Separate the inner tie rod from the relay rod using suitable tool. Discard the cotter pin.
- Remove the cotter pin (A) and nut (B) from the outer tie rod. Separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using suitable tool. Discard the cotter pin.
- Remove the inner tie rod and outer tie rod from the vehicle as an assembly. Separate the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod on a clean working surface.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse cotter pins.
- Tighten the fasteners to specification. Refer to Exploded View - Steering Linkage .
- Check wheel alignment. Refer to Front Wheel Alignment .
