Removal And Installation: Removal
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Nissan Titan XD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
- To avoid the risk of personal injury:
- Be careful not to burn yourself, as engine oil may be hot.
- Prolonged and repeated contact with used engine oil may cause skin cancer; try to avoid direct skin contact with used engine oil. If skin contact is made, wash thoroughly with soap or hand cleaner as soon as possible. Avoid inhalation of vapors, ingestion, and prolonged contact with used engine oil.
- If not reused, dispose of in accordance with local environmental regulations.
CAUTION:
To avoid possible engine and system damage or performance issues:
- Brush away all dirt and debris from the area prior to opening any fuel, air intake, exhaust, cooling, aftertreatment or other engine system.
- To avoid contamination, any open engine system ports must be closed immediately with clean care caps or an appropriate covering.
- Do not allow any debris to fall into the engine.
- Do not allow any chemical cleaners to enter the engine or any open systems during the cleaning process.
- Disconnect the battery or batteries. Refer to Battery Disconnect .
- Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove the charge-air cooler outlet tube from the turbocharger compressor outlet connection. Refer to Exploded View .
- Disconnect the crankcase breather hose from the rocker cover (bank 2).
- Loosen the air inlet connection (lower) clamp and remove the air inlet connection and crankcase breather hose. Refer to Exploded View.NOTE: Install Tool onto low-pressure turbocharger inlet once air inlet connection is removed.
Tool : - (J-54423)
- Disconnect the vacuum hose (2) from the turbocharger compressor bypass valve actuator (1)..
- Disconnect the harness connector from the turbocharger speed sensor and from the low pressure turbocharger boost pressure sensor.
- Remove bolts (A) and remove the low-pressure turbocharger boost pressure sensor tube (1).CAUTION: Do not reuse the O-ring (2).
- Disconnect the harness connector from the turbocharger speed sensor.CAUTION: Do not remove the oil supply fitting from the block unless damaged. If fitting is required to be removed, vacuum all loose dirt from around the area of the oil supply fitting to avoid oil system contamination and potential engine damage.
- Remove bolt and remove the turbocharger speed sensor.CAUTION: Do not reuse O-ring.
- Using Tool, cover openings for turbocharger speed sensor (A) and low-pressure turbocharger boost pressure sensor tube (B).
- Remove bolt (A) from the support bracket.
- Remove banjo bolts (A/C) from the high-pressure turbocharger and low-pressure turbocharger.CAUTION: Do not reuse copper sealing washers (1/3).
- Remove the bolt (A) for the turbocharger oil drain line (1) on the cylinder block.CAUTION: Do not reuse the O-ring (2).
- Remove bolts and remove the high-pressure turbocharger, turbocharger compressor outlet connection, turbocharger compressor bypass valve and turbocharger compressor bypass valve actuator as an assembly.CAUTION: Do not reuse the O-ring (2).NOTE: While lifting slowly, make sure the turbocharger oil drain line disconnects from the cylinder block. Using a suitable tool may help to release the line.
- Using Tool, cover openings (A) on the low-pressure turbocharger.
Tool : - (J-54423)
- Remove bolts (A) and remove the turbocharger compressor bypass valve (1) from the high-pressure turbocharger (2).CAUTION: Do not reuse the O-ring (2).
- Remove the turbocharger oil drain line from the high-pressure turbocharger. Refer to Exploded View.CAUTION: Do not reuse turbocharger oil drain line gasket.
