Diagnosis Procedure

- CHECK DTC PRIORITY
- Turn ignition switch ON.
- Connect CONSULT and check for "ENGINE" diagnostic trouble codes.
- Check for DTC P050A-00 being current on the CONSULT screen.
Is DTC P050A-00 detected as current?
YES
GO TO 2.
NO
Refer to Intermittent Incident .
- CHECK DTC PRIORITY
- Using CONSULT, check for "ENGINE" diagnostic trouble codes.
- Check for DTC P0501-00 being current on the CONSULT screen.
Is applicable DTC detected?
YES
Refer to DTC Index .
NO
GO TO 3 .
- CHECK DTC PRIORITY
- Using CONSULT, check for "ENGINE" diagnostic trouble codes.
- Check for current or past DTCs related to the fuel system, crankshaft position sensor or camshaft position sensor on the CONSULT screen.
Is applicable DTC detected?
YES
Refer to DTC Index .
NO
GO TO 4 .
- CHECK ENGINE RPM
- Start the engine.
- Using CONSULT, compare engine RPM in Data Monitor to mechanical tachometer or to the instrument cluster tachometer.
Is RPM reading correct?
YES
GO TO 5 .
NO
Refer to Diagnosis Procedure and Diagnosis Procedure .
- CHECK ACCESSORY LOAD
- Turn ignition switch OFF.
- Check the accessory load on the engine:
- Inspect the engine for damaged or marginal accessories such as generator, refrigerant pumps, hydraulic pumps, air compressors, etc.
- Inspect for additional engine accessories that could increase the load on the engine.
Damage or additional accessories found on the engine?
YES
Repair or replace error-detected parts.
NO
Refer to appropriate engine performance troubleshooting tree. Refer to Symptom Table .
