Disassembly and Assembly: Assembly

Install the oil pressure regulator spring (2) and oil pressure regulator (1).

Install the threaded plug (3) into the plunger bore (A).
Install the oil check valve spring (B) and oil check valve (A) into the block stiffening plate and install the threaded plug (C).

CAUTION: Do not reuse the O-ring (1).

: Front

Install the oil pump suction tube (2) into the block stiffening plate and tighten bolts (A).

CAUTION: Do not reuse O-ring (1).

Bolts (A)

: 7.4 N.m (0.75 kg-m, 65 in-lb)

Fill the oil pump (1) with clean engine oil through opening (A). Use recommended engine oil or equivalent. Refer to Cummins 5.0L Engine: Fluids and Lubricants

CAUTION:
To avoid possible engine damage:
- Fill the oil pump with oil.
- Prime the lubricating oil system after engine repair or rebuild service activities.
- Confirm oil pressure within 15 seconds of start up, shut down engine immediately if no oil pressure is produced after 15 seconds.
: Front
Make sure the oil pump bushing (1) is installed in the block stiffening plate before installing oil pump.

Install the oil pump (1) onto the block stiffening plate (2) and hand tighten the bolts (A).

NOTE: Turn the pump to check for proper rotation using a suitable tool.

Tighten the oil pump bolts to specification in the sequence shown.

Oil pump bolts

: 20 N.m (2.0 kg-m, 15 ft-lb)

Align the windage tray in the stiffening plate and install bolts. Refer to Exploded View .
