PARKING BRAKE SHOE : Removal & Installation: Removal
WARNING:
- Clean brakes using a vacuum dust collector to minimize the hazard of airborne particles or other materials.
- Clean dust on disc brake rotor, parking brake shoes, and back plate using a dust collector. Do not blow with compressed air.
- Remove the rear wheel and tire using power tool. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Place matching marks (A) on the rear disc brake rotor and on the wheel hub and bearing.
- Remove the rear disc brake rotor. Refer to Removal and Installation
.CAUTION:
- Do not depress brake pedal while brake caliper is removed.
- Set the parking brake control in the completely released position.
- Do not drop the removed parts.
- If the rear disc brake rotor cannot be removed, use the following procedure:
- Secure the rear disc brake rotor using wheel nuts and remove the adjuster hole plug.
- Using a suitable tool, rotate the adjuster (RH/LH) (1) in the direction (B) to retract and loosen the parking brake shoes.
- Remove the rear disc brake rotor.
- Remove the following parts. Refer to Exploded View .
- Anti-rattle pins
- Anti-rattle spring retainers
- Anti-rattle springs
- Return springs (upper/lower)
CAUTION: Do not drop the removed parts. - Remove the pin and separate the parking brake rear cable (RH/LH) from the toggle lever. Refer to Exploded View .CAUTION:
- To prevent damage to parts, do not bend parking brake cables.
- Do not drop the removed parts.
- Remove the following parts:
- Toggle lever
- Adjuster (RH/LH)
- Parking brake shoe (front)
- Parking brake shoe (rear)
CAUTION:- The parking brake shoe (front) has a different lining material than the parking brake shoe (rear). Do not misidentify them during removal.
- Do not drop the removed parts.
- If necessary, remove the nuts and the anchor block.
- If necessary, remove the back plate. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Inspect the components. Refer to Inspection .
