Oil Pan: Removal

WARNING:
- Place vehicle on a flat and solid surface.
- You should not remove oil pan until exhaust system and cooling system have completely cooled off.
Otherwise, you may burn yourself and/or fire may break out in the fuel line.
- When removing front engine mounting nuts, lift up slightly engine for safety work.
CAUTION:
When removing the aluminum oil pan from engine, first remove the crankshaft position sensor (POS) from the assembly.
Be careful not to damage sensor edges and signal plate teeth.

- Remove front RH and LH wheels.
- Remove battery.
- Remove oil level gauge.
- Remove engine undercover.
- Remove suspension member stay.
- Drain engine coolant from radiator drain plug.
- Disconnect A/T oil cooler hoses. (A/T)
- Drain engine oil.
- Remove the crankshaft position sensor (POS).
- Remove drive belts and idler pulley with bracket.
- Remove power steering oil pump, then put it aside holding with a suitable wire.
- Remove alternator.
- Install engine slingers.
- Remove front propeller shaft. (4WD)
Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove exhaust front tube heat insulators, then remove rear heated oxygen sensors.
- Remove exhaust front tube from both sides.
Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove front final drive. (4WD)
Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove starter motor.
- Disconnect oil pressure switch harness connector.
- Loosen and disconnect the bolts fixing the steering column assembly lower joint and the power steering gear.
- Set a suitable transmission jack under the front suspension member and hoist engine with engine slingers.
- Remove front engine mounting nuts from both sides.
- Remove front suspension member bolts and nuts.
- Lower the transmission jack carefully to secure clearance between the oil pan and suspension member.
- Remove A/T oil cooler tube. (A/T)
- Remove water hose and tube. (A/T)

- Remove the four engine-to-transmission bolts.
- Loosen steel oil pan bolts in reverse order of tightening. Refer to COMPONENTS .
- Remove steel oil pan.
- Insert seal cutter (special service tool) between aluminum oil pan and steel oil pan.
- Be careful not to damage aluminum mating surface.
- Do not insert screwdriver, or oil pan flange will be deformed.
- Slide seal cutter by tapping on the side of the tool with a hammer.
- Insert seal cutter (special service tool) between aluminum oil pan and steel oil pan.
- Remove plug from rear right of aluminum oil pan.
- Plug position is under No. 4 bolt in the figure.
- Remove aluminum oil pan bolts in numerical order.
- Remove aluminum oil pan.
- Insert seal cutter between aluminum oil pan and cylinder block.
- Be careful not to damage aluminum mating surface.
- Do not insert screwdriver, or oil pan flange will be deformed.
- Slide seal cutter by tapping its side with a hammer.
- Insert seal cutter between aluminum oil pan and cylinder block.
- Remove O-rings from cylinder block and oil pump body.
- Remove front cover gasket and rear oil seal retainer gasket.
