Cylinder Head: Removal

- Release fuel pressure. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
- Drain engine coolant and engine oil.
- Remove the following parts.
- Battery
- Engine undercover
- Radiator shroud
- Radiator: Refer to RADIATOR .
- Cooling fan
- Drive belts
- Remove exhaust front tubes. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM .
- Remove exhaust manifolds in reverse order of installation. Refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD .
- Remove aluminum oil pan. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove front timing chain case, timing chain and rear timing chain case. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove intake manifold in reverse order of illustration.
- Remove water outlet.
- Remove intake valve timing control solenoid valves.
- Remove intake and exhaust camshafts and camshaft brackets.
- Equally loosen camshaft bracket bolts in several steps in the numerical order shown in the figure.
For reinstallation, be sure to put marks on camshaft bracket before removal.
- Equally loosen camshaft bracket bolts in several steps in the numerical order shown in the figure.
- Remove valve lifters.
- Identify installation positions, and store them without mixing them up.

- Identify installation positions, and store them without mixing them up.
- Remove RH and LH camshaft chain tensioners from cylinder head.
- Remove chain tensioner with its stopper pin attached.
- Stopper pin was attached when secondary timing chain was removed.
- Remove cylinder head bolts.
- Cylinder head bolts should be loosened in two or three steps.
- A warped or cracked cylinder head could result from removing in incorrect order.
- Remove cylinder head.
