Check With Engine Idling

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Move gearshift lever to "P" or "N" position. Turn ignition switch to START position. If engine starts in "P" and "N" positions, go to next step. If not, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Move gearshift lever to "D", "1", "2" or "R" position. Turn ignition switch to START position. If engine starts, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If not, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Move gearshift lever to "P" position. Release parking brake. Push vehicle forward or backward. If vehicle moves when pushed, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  4. Apply parking brake. Move gearshift lever to "N" position. Turn ignition switch to START position and start engine. Release parking brake. If vehicle moves forward or backward, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  5. Apply brakes. Move gearshift lever to "R" position. If large shock is noted when changing from "N" to "R" position, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If not, go to next step.
  6. With gearshift lever in "R" position, release brakes. If vehicle creeps backward, go to next step. If not, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  7. Move gearshift lever to "D", "2" and "1" positions. If vehicle creeps forward in all 3 positions, go to CRUISE TEST . If not, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
